Let Them Eat Cake Mani

For today's post, I have a manicure themed around an 'oldie but goodie' indie nail polish, NCLA's 'Let Them Eat Cake':

NCLA 'Let Them Eat Cake' Mani

For this Manicure I used NCLA's 'Let Them Eat Cake', a gorgeous lavender glitter crelly polish from NCLA's 'Duchess of L.A.' collection, which I believe came out in 2014. I added two metallic glitter accent nails, one in lavender (Essie's 'Stroke of Brilliance'), and another in plum (L.A Girl's Glitter Addict 'Provocative'). These glitters closely match two of the colours in the metallic glitter mix used in 'Let Them Eat Cake'

Polishes Used: NCLA 'Let Them Eat Cake', Essie 'Stroke of Brilliance', LA Girl 'Provacative'.

'Let Them Eat Cake' would probably be one of my favourite polishes, If I really had to try and pick favourites! I've always loved the colour scheme, and even after all of these years, the formula is still impeccable!

Deep Emerald Green Glitter Mani

Deep Emerald Green Glitter Manicure using Nubar 'Greener' and L.A. Girl 'Purge', on dark skin

Today's manicure is a blinged-up version of yesterday's swatch of Nubar's 'Greener'. This look is truly serving up all kinds of pre-St Patrick's Day sparkly green greatness! 😉

This has been such a fun manicure to wear! There's just something about an in-your-face glitter mani that just instantly puts me in a great mood! And then combined with all of this gorgeous greenness... It's almost too much to handle!

Nubar Greener, and L.A, Girl Glitter Addict 'Purge'

Above, is a shot of the polishes that I used to create this look. The base polish is Nubar 'Greener', and the glitter is L.A. Girl Glitter Addict 'Purge'. The L.A. Girl polish was from a glitter collection they released with about 14 different shades of metallic glitter polishes. I managed to get all but one or two shades from the glitter collection several years ago, and they are still going strong!  These are actually the only polishes that I own from this brand.

Below, I've included a few additional shots of the manicure.  Enjoy!

Blue Glitter Impromptu Mani

Today I have a quick post to share an impromptu mani that I threw on over my last manicure. I even recycled the gold accent nail from that mani.

Sorry that the picture is a little out of focus - I literally only have this one semi-usable shot of the manicure! I didn't get a chance to take photos right after doing the mani, as I usually prefer to do. As a result, I almost forgot to get a picture entirely! At one point, I did this quick snapshot of the manicure just in case I forgot to do a proper photo shoot before I removed the polish. Sure enough, that is exactly what ended up happening!

Here are the polishes that I used:

Polishes Used
L.A. Girl Glitter Addict ‘Jostle’
Sally Hansen Triple Shine ‘Wavy Blue’
Essie ‘Rock at the Top’
Quo by Orly ‘Filthy Rich’

The manicure is just a simple royal blue shimmer polish topped with a royal blue glitter polish. The gold accent nail is essentially the same, but there, the gold glitter polish is applied in a glitter gradient.

Mix and Match Mani

Blue themed manicure (left hand) and pink themed manicure (right hand) featuring different polish finishes, glitter, and nail stamping

Today's manicure has a little bit of everything - I used crème polishes, metallic polishes, glitter polishes, nail stamping, light colours, darker colours, and two different but complimentary manicures on each hand!

OPI 'Centennial Celebration'

My last post featured 'Visions of Georgia Green', one of the two new additions to OPI's Coca Cola themed collection of polishes. Today's post is on 'Centennial Celebration', the other new addition to the line up.

Basic manicure featuring OPI's 'Centennial Celebration', and an accent nail (ring finger) with black and silver glitter.

Both polishes were made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Coca Cola bottle. 'Visions of Georgia Green' was a take on the green glass soft drink bottle, while this one appears to be a take on the classic clear, colourless bottle.

At first glance, I was going to pass on buying 'Centennial Celebration' because I already have a lot of silver polishes. However, I purchased 'Visions of Georgia Green', and I loved it so much that I decided to go back and give this polish a try as well. The thing I realized with 'Visions...' is that it wasn't just the colour of the polish that made it special, it was the texture and consistency as well.

These polishes are glass-themed, so they attempt to characterize certain elements of glass such as its translucence, its reflective nature, and its sparkle. Accordingly, the polishes are semi-translucent, metallic, and contain micro-glitter particles.

In addition to the cool textural properties of 'Centennial Celebration', this particular shade of silver is a little different as well. There is a slight gold tint to this silver which adds a little warmth, and also makes it seem more luxurious.

All in all, I really like this polish, and I'm glad that I decided to give it a try!

Cinco de Mayo Manicure 2015

Today I have a Cinco de Mayo manicure to share!

Nail stamping manicure featuring white base stamped in copper with Mexican themed images. The ring finger accent nail features a copper base topped with a white and silver micro-glitter mix, an emerald green glitter polish, a red glitter polish, and then stamped stamped with the words 'Viva Mexico' in white.
Cinco de Mayo Manicure
I kind of did this one in a rush, so there are so many things that I would change about it if I had to do it again! I do like the overall look though, and it also inspired another manicure idea which I hope to do shortly. Here are the polishes that I used to create this look:

Polishes Used:
Plates Used:
China Glaze ‘White on White’
Cheeky Jumbo Plate 1 ‘Viva Mexico’
L.A. Girl Glitter Addict ‘Animate’

Konad Special Polish ‘White’

L.A. Girl Glitter Addict ‘Purge’

China Glaze ‘The Outer Edge’

Essie ‘Penny Talk’

I absolutely love this Cheeky Beauty 'Viva Mexico' plate! The designs are so bold and intricate, and they look fantastic stamped on the nail. I really love how the white and copper stamping of the full nail images from this plate turned out. However, I would have loved to be able to spend a little more time designing the accent nail.

I ended up using 'Penny Talk' as a copper base coat,  and then topping it with three different glitters: 'The Outer Edge', a white and silver micro-glitter polish; 'Animate', a red glitter; and 'Purge', an emerald green glitter. I then covered everything with some top coat, and then stamped the script images. I like the idea of using the different glitters, but the way I used them, the individual glitter polishes get lost in the mix, and even worse, 'The Outer Edge', the most delicate glitter of the bunch, can barely be seen!

I realized after the fact that I could have done a three colour glitter gradient to help the glitters really stand out, and also to be a little more reminiscent of the Mexican Flag. Then I could have stamped over the white part in the centre with the writing in black. I also don't think I would go with the copper base if I had to do it again. Here are some close-up shots of the accent nails:

The best thing about a manicure that doesn't turn out the way you had hoped, is that it is so easy to take what you learned and apply it to the next one!
