Analogous Colour Scheme Skittle Mani

Today I have a simple impromptu manicure to share:

Manicure with nails painted in metallic gold, shimmery pastel mint green, and pastel blue nail polishes

Recently, I decided that I wanted to try use my 'Borghese Rapido' polishes a bit more, since hadn't been using them that frequently. That decision was the inspiration for today's manicure, where I use three different Borghese Rapido shades to create a simple skittle mani.

Borghese Rapido ‘Lira’, Borghese Rapido ‘Menta’, and Borghese Rapido ‘Castello Blue’

Polishes Used
Borghese Rapido ‘Lira’
Borghese Rapido ‘Menta’
Borghese Rapido ‘Castello Blue’

The main feature of this manicure is the colour combination of the different nail polishes. These colours look great combined because yellow, green, and blue are adjacent to each other on the colour wheel, and create an 'analogous' colour scheme when used together. I originally wanted to do some nail stamping over the look, but I never got around to doing it. Even so, I still think that the look holds up despite the lack of any added embellishments.

Mix and Match Mani

Blue themed manicure (left hand) and pink themed manicure (right hand) featuring different polish finishes, glitter, and nail stamping

Today's manicure has a little bit of everything - I used crème polishes, metallic polishes, glitter polishes, nail stamping, light colours, darker colours, and two different but complimentary manicures on each hand!

Today, I am so pleased to present the 21st and final manicure of the 2015 Crackle Polish Challenge! After two and a half months of using predominantly crackle polishes, I'm really excited about being free to use other polishes, styles, and techniques again!

For this manicure, I started with a base coat of the sheerest base polish - 'Tulle Kit'. Then, I applied the 5 other base polishes randomly on sections of each nail. I called this a patchwork base mani because the sections I used were uniform: I divided each nail into six parts, and each part was filled with a stroke of a different polish. The end result reminded me of a patchwork quilt!

Next I applied the crackle polish in short, slightly spaced out, strokes. Then I topped everything off with an iridescent blue glitter topcoat, and then a layer of a glossy, quick dry topcoat. I'm quite happy with the results. I like how the use of different colours, sheens, and textures for the base coat transformed the crackle polish look into an abstract pattern.

I'm planning to do one final 'Crackle' post in which I sum up the challenge, and I also hope I'll be able to squeeze in an Easter Mani at some point.  Stay tuned!

Chartreuse Mani

Today I have a post-St. Patrick's day mani to share with you. It features one of my favourite colours, chartreuse. Chartreuse is a combination of green and gold, so it lends itself perfectly to this subtle, elegant interpretation of St Patrick's day nails!

A manicure featuring chartreuse nail polish in 2 different ways. The thumb, index, and pinky are covered in a metallic chartreuse polish, while the ring finger and middle finger feature a chartreuse glitter polish.

Polishes Used:
Illamasqua 'Peruzzi'
Borghese Rapido 'Limoncello'
Illamasqua 'Peruzzi', and Borghese Rapido 'Limoncello'

Overall, I really like this mani. It's simple, but I love how well the two polishes match each other. I love having different versions of the same colour - it's such a nice, understated look to pair identical shades of polish in different finishes.

I plan to continue with the Crackle polish challenge for my next few manicures.  I have 4 crackle polishes left to complete the challenge: 2 blue crackles, a red one, and a pink one.  Stay tuned to see what I come up with!
